Won’t Learn don’t teach

There are about 1.3 billion Catholics around the world

Making Pope Francis a serious influencer

Lots of people hope that he’ll change the church’s stance on condoms

From being anti to be being accepting

It would have a huge impact on the spread of aids

And the lives of millions of people around the world

But he and the church resist

They say they aren’t anti condoms

Just anti using them as a contraceptive

A bit like saying you’re not anti-knives

Except for cutting things

They have a fundamental issue

They believe the reason the church exists

Is to teach the world

Not to learn from it

So, changing with the world would undermine them

That’s what makes them so dogmatic

They are effectively anti learning

A one-way organisation

Information out, not information in

And it’s having an impact

The majority of Catholics don’t follow their guidance on contraception

87% of catholic women in the US use a contraceptive that the church forbid=

It’s a good illustration of the downside of dogma

Becoming less relevant and being ignored

Because it’s clear the world is changing

Maybe not as frantically as some suggest

But things do change

Technologies, ways of life, options

They do gradually shift

So, if your job has anything to do with teaching

Or recommending, or proposing, or suggesting

Then it’s important to spend as much time reading

Taking in, challenging & understanding

Because why would anyone want to be taught

By someone who refuses to learn
